What is the best age to see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that your child can get an orthodontic check-up no later than the age of 7. By this age, Dr. Laspos can spot significant dental or skeletal problems which are corrected easier at an early age. However, if you want to improve your smile, then any age can be a great age to see the orthodontist. Orthodontic treatment is not exclusive to children and teens, with about one in every four orthodontic patients being adult. Whether you are considering treatment for yourself or for a child, any time is a good time to visit us.
What is Phase One (early) Treatment?
Phase I treatment usually starts when children are between the ages of 7 and 10 and lasts about 6-18 months. The primary objective of Phase I treatment is to address significant dental or skeletal problems which are corrected easier or that can only be corrected at an early age. Phase I treatment can fully correct these problems and/or prevent them from becoming more severe. It can also help to improve self-esteem and self-confidence.
Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?
It’s never too late! Healthy teeth can be moved at any age. Today, about one patient in five is an adult. A healthy, beautiful smile can improve self-esteem, no matter the age. Adults love the results they receive and are always extremely happy that they didn’t delay their new smile any longer.

Why is Orthodontic treatment so important?
Orthodontic treatment is essential for multiple reasons. Crooked and crowded teeth present challenges for proper cleaning and can lead to abnormal wear on tooth surfaces, along with difficulties in chewing and speaking. Beyond functional benefits, addressing these issues enhances self-confidence by improving dental, smile, and facial aesthetics. Without intervention, these concerns may worsen, necessitating additional dental care later in life.
I had braces as a teen, and now as an adult my teeth are out of place. What can I do?
If you notice an unwanted change in your smile or bite, contact us at +357 25735050 for information. A short period orthodontic treatment may be necessary to regain proper alignment.
How often will I have to see the orthodontist while I’m in treatment?
On average, you will see the orthodontist about every six to ten weeks during treatment. This allows the orthodontist to make the changes needed to progress through treatment and also allows him to keep an eye on your treatment progress.
Do I need to see my dentist while in braces?
Yes! Regular checkups with your dentist are important while in braces. Τhe dentist will determine the intervals between cleaning appointments while you are in braces
How long do I have to wear retainers after treatment?
Wearing your retainers is the best way to keep your teeth from moving after your orthodontic treatment. A fixed thin wire will be applied inside the upper and lower front teeth. Additionally, removable clear retainers are given to you, which should only be worn during sleep for a year. After the first year, you should wear your retainers during sleep once a week. If you feel something is bothering you with the wire or if your aligners get broken or lost, call us for an appointment.
How do I take care of my retainers?
When you take out your retainers, keep them safe in their container so that they do not get lost or broken. Keep your retainers clean by brushing them gently with toothpaste and cold water. The retainers should be cleaned with special tablets in a glass of cold water twice a week. Use special interdental brushes for better oral health. Brush the wire exactly as you do with your teeth.
